The Twelve ApostlesWelcome to the website of The Twelve Apostles Greek Orthodox Church. The church is one of many Greek Orthodox churches in the United Kingdom. It serves as the spiritual centre for the community of Hertfordshire and beyond. Any visitor to our church will tell you that it is like a little monastery you expect to find at the top of a mountain in Cyprus or Greece.

Our church welcomes worshipers from other Orthodox Christian communities (Greek and non-Greek) and is especially popular with the younger generation who select it for their weddings and baptisms. We are the only Greek Orthodox church in the United Kingdom that broadcasts live video (see links above) and caters for online bookings (see link above) for weddings and baptisms. In addition, for weddings, we have authority to perform the civil ceremony at the same time as the religious one.

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  COVID-19 UPDATE

THE REMEBERANCE DAY OF OUR CHURCH --- SATURDAY 4th JULY 2020

       a.   1η Θεία Λειτουργία 08:30 – 09:30πμ
       b.   2η Θεία Λειτουργία 09:30πμ - 12:30μμ
       a.   09:30-10:00, 30 άτομα
       b.   10:00-10:30, 30 άτομα
       c.   10:30-11:00, 30 άτομα
       d.   11:00-11:30, 30 άτομα
       e.   11:30-12:00, 30 άτομα
       f.    12:00-12:30, 30 άτομα

Announcement – 25/06/2020

My dear brothers and sisters, I greet you.
I hope that you and your families are all well and you are in good health.

As you already know, from Saturday, 4 July, 2020 the government will allow church attendance and worship for up to 30 people.
Also, they are allowing Weddings and Baptisms and Funerals. We have always been allowed to conduct funerals but only for 10 close family members.

Because we will now be unable to have our usual very large congregation and following the advice from His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas, we inform you of the following new arrangements:
   1. From Sunday 5th July there will be two Divine Liturgies (Holy Eucharists with Holy Communion).
       a.   1st Divine Liturgy 08:30 – 09:30am
       b.   2nd Divine Liturgy 09.30am – 12:30pm
   2. In the first Divine Liturgy 08:30 – 09:30am only 30 people will enter the church.
   3. In the second Divine Liturgy 09:30am – 12:30pm only 30 people will enter every half hour (30 minutes).
       a.   09:30-10:00am, 30 people.
       b.   10:00-10:30am, 30 people.
       c.   10:30-11:00am, 30 people.
       d.   11:00-11:30am, 30 people.
       e.   11:30am-12:00pm, 30 people.
       f.    12:00-12:30pm, 30 people.
   4. You shall stay for only the 30 minutes which you are allowed and when you are leaving, you shall be able to receive Holy Communion and the antidoron (square piece of bread), which shall be ready from our first Divine Liturgy.
   5. We shall all park in the rear large parking area. When you arrive, you shall receive a ticket, so we can have order of priority.
   6. All of us when entering the church must wash our hands with hand gel, wear gloves and masks. It would be better if you have these from home. Those who haven’t got any, they can purchase them from our Church.
   7. The feast days (eortes) and memorial services (mnimosyna) shall be done as normal but without Kolyva, Phanouropittes and 5 bread for feast (pentarti).
   8. Please arrange by telephone appointment from Monday to Friday the 8 day and 40 days blessings for new born children. If somebody cannot do it on those days, please come on Sunday from 13:00hrs (1.00pm) – 14:00hrs (2.00pm) only.

Please follow the advice from our Church Committee faithfully about where you shall wait, where you shall enter and how you shall exit from the Church.
The Clergy and Committees thank you in advance for your co-operation and consideration during these difficult times.

With best wishes
The Priest in Charge
Protopresbyter Joseph Paliouras.

Update:  31/03/20

With our deepest regret, following the latest government advice, the Church would like to inform its congregation that it will still remain closed until further notice.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 virus does not appear to show signs of retreating and therefore it will not be safe for people to gather inside the Church to pray together. However, it is possible to connect to our live broadcasting and take part in the prayers.
If circumstances change and life returns to normal, the Church will reopen and you will be informed.
Thank you for your understanding.

Update:  19/03/20

Having a strong sense of responsibility as a Church and further to the new measures announced by the Holy and Sacred Synod in order to protect the public and prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we actively support the instructions and have decided to close the Church until the end of March. This implies that no Divine Services, Sacraments (Baptisms) or other activities (functions) can take place during this period.
If circumstances change and life returns to normal, the Church will reopen and you will be informed.  Thank you for your understanding.
